I've been on the neon board and heard everything from throw out bearing to the bushing for the clutch cable/forks was missing. So what do you guys think? It is on my 98 R/T

Does the noise change when you push in the clutch?

my guess is throwout bearing. the only reason i could see it being the bushings on the shift fork is when it makes noise when you press the clutch in and out. if it's just sitting there making noise the bushings aren't really doing any work so i don't see why they'd vibrate...plus i've never heard of that happening really.

either that or you've just driven/shifted the thing so hard that the input shaft is wobbling around...chances are you'd know if this was happening though...lol

the neon dudes seem to think that the input shaft bearing has gone bad and a couple said that is what it sounds like. Some told me it was a bushing gone off the clutch cable... don't think so, but some said TOB.

I knew it was doing this when I got the car, but it has been sitting since I got it, just started to fix it up to drive. But the motor is coming out to do a fairly cheap rebuild. I'm gonna break the case open and check for missing teeth or something inside the case. Guess I'll throw on new bearings in there also and check the clutch and put a new TOB on there for good measure.

Did I miss something guys? I know the trans is coming out the car anyway...
